Tailwind Entertainment is an advisory firm focusing on music and media royalties. Combining knowledge and experience from the creative and finance industries, Tailwind conducts research on a global scale to identify interesting investment opportunities.

Who we are

Aaron Casey

Aaron is a Non - Executive Director on the Board of Tailwind Music Trading Limited. He provides insight relating to the various income streams available, the flow of income, collective management of rights and royalties as well as due diligence on behalf of investors in advance of and during the acquisition of intellectual property. Involved in the business of music Aaron has both a practical and academic interest in the global music industry. He holds an MA in Music Business Management from the University of Westminster in London as well as years of experience working with songwriters, music publishers and collection societies in a variety of roles during his time at the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO). Now acting as an independent music rights and royalties consultant his clientele include songwriters, artists, music publishers, record labels, lawyers, business managers and other specialist bodies. Aaron’s work involves identifying best practice with regards to administration in the industry, specifically regarding royalty earnings. As Head of the Music Business Department at BIMM Institute Dublin he supports other staff in achieving academic excellence and industry alignment across all music business modules. As Course Leader of the BA(Hons) in Music Business Aaron develops and maintains music industry connections and resources as well as overseeing the delivery of tuition. As a music business lecturer he focuses on helping students navigate the world of music publishing, royalties, copyright and contracts.

John Davies

John joined Brown Brothers Harriman & Co in 1981 and worked both in New York and London until 1985 having previously spent two years with Rowe & Pitman. He joined Lehman Brothers in 1985 where he oversaw the firm’s Institutional Equity Sales and Sales Trading division, taking the firm to a number one McLagan ranking prior to his departure in 1995. John also ran Credit Lyonnais Europe’s Global Equity Sales division until 1999, having previously been Managing Director of Instinet UK. In 2000 he was the CEO of Altius Partners, a hedge fund advisory and marketing business, prior to founding Davenport Capital in 2006. John was also CEO of MSK Capital Partners LLP from 2014 until it was bought out by Dalton SP in 2017. John graduated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge in 1979 with an MA (Hons) in Law. John co-founded Tailwind in 2017. At Tailwind John focuses predominantly on strategy and marketing, and together with Philipp jointly oversees the business.

Malcolm Dunbar

Malcolm started his career in 1980 at Polydor Records in London as a Marketing Manager working with artists including The Cure, Roxy Music and Eric Clapton. His first signing whilst at Polydor was multi-platinum award winning artist Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, before moving into what was going to be his focus for the next 30 years as A&R. Moving to Island Records to become Director of A&R marked a significant step up as he enjoyed multiple platinum successes with the Christians, Julian Cope and jazz artist Courtney Pine. Having been recruited by Warner / East West as Director of A&R, Malcolm continued his run of signing million selling artists like Tanita Tikaram and Ian MacCulloch. In the mid 90’s Malcolm headed up U2s prestigious label Mother Records as MD – again enjoying huge success with the likes of Bjork. A decade later Malcolm’s hit run continued as Director of A&R at V2 records signing 5x platinum artist Liberty X, recipients of a Brit award for best single and an Ivor Novello award for best song.

Michael Kramer

Michael Kramer has over 40 years of experience in music, media and brand marketing. Following his passion for music, he started his career in 1980 as a studio manager in a small village near Hamburg. In 1982 he was promoted Head of A&R for Polydor and in 1984 he launched Antenna Musik which in 1986 became Polygram Songs, the first new publishing company following the sale of Intersong and Chappell Music by Polygram. Michael then became Managing Director for the GAS-territories and built Polygram’s publishing company together with Lucian Grainge in the UK to what it is now. He was involved or personally signed artists and writers such as Bon Jovi, The Scorpions, Elton John (Dick James Music), ABBA (Polar Music), Roachford, Quireboys, Cameo, Dan Reed Network, Kitaro as well as German artists including Philipp Boa, The Jeremy Days, Tony Carey and Extrabreit. In 1991 Michael left Polygram to become General Manager of a print publishing house and shortly after, he launched his own boutique publishing company CPM where he mainly signed film music composers and produced more than 20 film scores and soundtracks in the years to come. In 2005 he launched a short film festival and started a new chapter in his career while becoming Managing Director of advertising agency TBWA in Hamburg. Michael joined Tailwind in 2020.

Paul Dackombe

Paul has over 30 years finance industry experience. Joining Citibank in 1990 he worked in various roles in both London and New York, ultimately managing the securities financing business in Europe. After leaving Citibank in 2000 he joined Reech Capital, a risk and derivatives boutique firm specialising in independent valuation and risk management of complex financial structures. He returned to banking in 2004 to head Prime Brokerage Sales at DrKW and subsequently Merrill Lynch, where he also built the firm’s Fixed Income Prime Brokerage business. He then joined Man Group as Head of Business Development for the UK and Middle East in 2008 until 2017. Since 2017 he has worked as an advisor to PIMCO and served as a non-executive Director at Axa Investment Management. Paul also has experience within the music industry where he has set up and managed an independent record label, recording studio and publishing business.

Peter McVeigh

Peter graduated from Queen’s University in 2010 with a First-Class Honours degree in Computer Science, following this he achieved a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Finance in 2011. During his studies he worked with Citigroup and New England Asset Management in numerous investment roles. Upon graduation Peter began his career in banking under the umbrella of Deutsche Bank as a Quantitative Portfolio Manager within the asset management division. He focused on the construction of multi-asset class portfolios for institutional clients across Europe. In 2013 he joined the London based Hedge Fund ‘MSK Capital Partners’ where he looked after the investment and risk management process, post which he ran the global trading desk for the fund. Peter went on to become the Head of Trading and Quantitative Analysis at the London based Hedge Fund 'IEP' in 2017 where he built and led the trading and portfolio risk management teams. Throughout his career Peter’s focus has been on the investment process with a particular emphasis on quantitative portfolio construction and risk management. Peter is responsible for Tailwind’s investment analysis and data science functions.

Philipp Saure

Philipp joined Goldman Sachs International in 1998 and worked in its Equities Division in London and Frankfurt until 2007, focusing on asset allocation, portfolio construction and risk management. He joined Altima Partners in 2008 as member of the Marketing and Product Development group, working on the management of credit risk and the development of capital relief models for stressed loan and credit portfolios. He joined MSK Capital Partners in 2013, becoming a partner in 2015, responsible for risk management. He graduated with a BA from Ludwig-Maximilian University and Georgetown University in Economics and History in 1996 as a DAAD scholar and gained an MSc in Political Economy in 1998 from the London School of Economics. Philipp co-founded Tailwind in 2017. At Tailwind Philipp coordinates the investment process and jointly oversees the business with John.
